Maintenance Suggestions
Your
Torrid water heater is a quality unit designed to give many years of exceptional
service.
In
order to receive the maximum possible life from your unit we recommend the
following maintenance be performed.
The
lining of your water heater is protected by a ceramic glass coating and by a
magnesium anode rod or “Mag-Rod”. This mag rod acts in a similar fashion to
the Zinc anodes protecting your engine cooling system and heat exchangers.
As
in the case of the Zinc anodes in your cooling system, the magnesium anode acts
as a sacrificial metal to others in your water heater and so should be inspected
periodically and replaced when it is substantially reduced in size. Its original
length is to within a few inches of the bottom of your water heater, and of
about 7/8” in diameter.
Certain
conditions can cause the anode to fail very rapidly, these would include:
1.The use of water makers on the vessel
2.The use of highly mineralized shore side water
3. Extended periods using “ shore power” in
marinas with incorrectly grounded vessels nearby.
(A
galvanic isolator installed on your electrical system will usually take care of
this problem.)
In
all of these conditions we recommend that you inspect your anode annually.
In “normal“ circumstances an inspection every two
years should be adequate.
Magnesium Anodes for your water heater are available
from the dealer that sold you your unit or from Torrid Manufacturing at the
above address and phone.
Thank you for buying a “Torrid Water heater” !!
