INSTALLATION
INSTRUCTIONS
Diagrams:
1.
Bolt heater base in desired location, above
or away from bilge water. This is
an electrical appliance and must be kept dry.
Make certain base is connected to ground bonding system.
2.
Make all water connections and fill tank. Open
faucet to allow air in tank to escape, allowing water to run clear in all lines.
Note:
Do not rotate outlet fitting. This
fitting is positioned so that attached AIR-VENT tubing end is at top of water
storage tank to eliminate trapped air. Black
line on outlet pipe nipple indicates position of top of the AIR-VENT and should
always be on the top of this fitting.
3.
Connect power to heater with 3 conductor
cord, making certain that green ground wire is connected to ground wire on
incoming power cord.
4.
Furnish 15 amp protected circuit for water
heater power supply for standard 1500 Watt 120 Volt elements.
For special order wattage’s or voltages other than standard, circuit
protection should be provided according to the requirements for that particular
installation.
5.
Water heater thermostat is equipped with
over temperature electrical cutoff. If
energy cutoff operates, check fusing and wiring then reset by pushing the red
reset button on thermostat. (Energy
cutoff will operate if water temperature exceeds 200 F.)
6.
Pipe temperature-pressure relief valve to
extend below base of water heater to bilge, or overboard.
Relief valve will operate at
210 F. temperature and/or 75 PSI pressure.
7.
CAUTION:
Drain water from heater if freezing of
stored water is possible. Freezing
will rupture tank and/or connecting water lines.
8.
Do not install check valve between
accumulator or pressure tank and water heater.
The water will expand as it heats and must have a place to expand into or
the pressure will rise until the relief valve on the water heater opens.
9.
When operating water heater from shore
power a galvanic isolator is recommended to prevent electrolysis in tank.
10.
For rough water cruising we recommend
additional restraints.
11. Maintenance:
At intervals of no more than 2 years it is recommended that the magnesium
anode be removed and
inspected for deterioration, and replaced if substantially wasted.
This can greatly lengthen the life of your water heater.
This maintenance is not required to maintain your warranty. On
vertical tanks the anode is located under the top of the water heater
jacket. Just remove the 3 screws
holding on the top to the water heater and remove the insulation bat for access
to the anode. On
horizontal tanks remove the rear mounting bracket, then remove the 3 screws
holding on the back cover of the water heater.
The anode is located in the center of the back of the tank.
Tools required:
slotted screw driver and socket set with ˝
and 1/16 inch
sockets. The magnesium
anodes are available through your local marine dealer, or call Torrid Mfg. for
more information.
